Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG) Conference 2018
ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN GEOGRAPHERS (ANG) CONFERENCE 2018
holding at DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, IBADAN, NIGERIA
Date: Sunday 4th – Friday 9th November 2018
Call for Submission of Abstracts
Theme: Geography and Sustainable National Development
The developmental challenges of the world have over the decades thrown up several policies and programmes. As the last millennium came to an end, world leaders devised the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to guide development from 2000 to 2015. These goals have been replaced with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 2015 to 2030.
Against this background, the conference is a prime opportunity for academics, practitioners and policy makers to underscore the significance of Geography as a discipline to the achievement of national development in the context of the SDGs. The conference, in general, would examine the contemporary and emerging themes in sustainable development. It is hoped that deliberations at this conference would ultimately dwell on, among other issues, the extent to which and in what ways geography as a discipline can help fulfill the global goals by 2030.
The conference coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Ibadan and her Department of Geography which is the first in Nigeria. The conference is therefore significant in the sense that it is the 70th anniversary of Geography as a discipline in the country. This is a landmark occasion for the community of geographers to take stock of our achievement and contribution to national development. It is also an opportunity to chart a future for geography.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), on behalf of Council of ANG, hereby calls for submission of abstracts on any of the listed sub-themes. This invitation is open to all irrespective of discipline and research orientation within and outside Nigeria.
