Polygamy, though no longer hold sway as it used to in the olden days, is still a common factor in our today society. Yes, people still marry more than one wife (as opposed to the Christian religion).

Quarrels are common factors in polygamous homes (as in every other home) while a handful live or supposedly live in peace and harmony. However, it has seemed to become the norm that when the husband dies, the family scatters. Or to be put in Achebe's words "the centre can no longer hold"...... Yes, it now seems like " a knife has been put in the thing that held them (or appeared to) together".

But is a woman married to a polygamous man not supposed to be married to the family? Is she married to the man alone and is therefore to act as if the other wives and children do not exist? Wasn't she aware the man had other wives before she accepted to come into the family? Can't the women live happily and united before and after the death of their husband? What happened to "female bonding"?.

These are questions that have not ceased to run through my mind.

I Can say that desperation lead some ladies into marrying a man that's already married.

This is one of the best pieces I've read on heroslodge.com.

This issue has spurred alot of controversy since modern times. . . I had an friend who says she can't tolerate polygamy because even her great-grand parent, her grand parents, and her parents did not practice it so she is wondering where that idea is coming from.

Some people are of the opinion that the more wives you marry, the closer you get to your grave; while another school-of-though profess the claim of 'the more the merrier'.

I'm not pro-polygamy, but I know where I belong when it comes to marriage.

Where you belong really matters to the audience sir, as for me, i can't tolerate polygamy, i don't like seeing a man with many wives, it doesn't make any sense to me, especially in this generation.
